ROANOKE CHURCH

SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST REFORM MOVEMENT

Throw Out The Lifeline

Edward Smith Ufford was visiting Point Alverton when he witnessed a group of men from the nearby life-saving station practice water rescue drills. This pastor had seen remnants of ships that had crashed on the nearby rocky shores during bad weather. He began to ponder how many lives were lost due to these storms. As he continued watching the men throw out the life-line, he thought of how we are encouraged to rescue souls from sin and soon penned the words to the well-known song, “Throw Out the Life Line”.

Throw out the lifeline across the dark wave;
There is a brother whom someone should save;
Somebody’s brother, O who then will dare
To throw out the lifeline, his peril to share?
Throw out the lifeline! Throw out the lifeline!
Someone is drifting away;
Throw out the lifeline! Throw out the lifeline!
Someone is sinking today.

As we near the end of 2022, make it your goal in the new year to throw out the life-line to family, friends, acquaintances and even your enemies! Be a life saver today!

“…encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.” 1 Thessalonians 5:14 (ESV).
